It was a night to remember. Having
fellowship with Bedans from every gender and generation, having one common
theme "we are all Bedans" as Cory Aquino adamantly put it during
the award
ceremonies.
Joining us... our fellow Bedan batch balikbayan Gus Gastrock, Eric
Estoesta, John Fernandez, Jerry Garcia, Nesty Mendoza, FD Santos, Boyet
Almazan and Monmon Mitra. Later in the evening, John and Gus took
pleasure
and joined us for the long-awaited "Red & White"
Rigodon de Honor.
The RED and WHITE Ball is another
important event much awaited by Bedans, other than the Homecoming. The
Ball is not only a Social event but another venue to celebrate Bedan
Achievement. The annual Bedan Alumni Awards added glitter, color and
meaning to the Red and White Ball. It was also an opportunity to remind
every Bedan of great men in history who made significant impact in the
mainstream society.

Applause for Bedan achievers
True to its theme, “Celebrating
Bedan Achievement,” the annual Red and White Ball held recently by
the San Beda College Alumni Association (SBCAA) honored its
outstanding men and women.
Top in the roster of Bedan awardees is the late Benigno "Ninoy"
Aquino, who was elevated to the San Beda Hall of Fame.
Former President Cory Aquino graced the awarding rites at the NBC
Tent, Fort Bonifacio Global City.
Other Bedans elevated posthumously to the Hall of Fame included
Chief Justice Roberto Concepcion, painter Alfredo Carmelo, Maj. Gen.
Basilio Valdes.
Old-time basketball hero Tata Carranceja was, likewise, elevated to
the Sports Hall of Fame.
The SBCAA launched this year the late Sen. Raul S. Roco Award for
Public Service Excellence in memory of San Beda’s favorite son,
Raul.
The Roco award went to QC Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte.
Former Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella received the Ramon Mitra Award
for Legislation.
Dr. Luis Kodumal of Philadelphia, was chosen Most Outstanding
Overseas Bedan.
Twelve distinguished Bedans were also honored: Court of Appeals
Justice Francisco Acosta (law), Supreme Court Justice Antonio
Eduardo Nachura (government service), Toyota Pasong Tamo pres.
Arturo Macapagal (business & industry), Security Bank pres. Alberto
Villarosa (baking & finance), Mukesh Advani (sports service),
Congressman Abraham Kahlil Mitra (government service), Francisco
Roque (education and international understanding), radio broadcaster
Marlo Sanchez (entrepreneurship), Comelec Commissioner Rene
Sarmiento Jr. (government service), and Alfred "Krip" Yuson
(creative writing/journalism).
Women of Service awardees included: Sen. Nikki Coseteng, senatorial
candidate Mrs. Sonia Roco and Ana Marie Periquet.
The affair honored anew the Red Lions who brought home the 2006 NCAA
championship trophy.
The affair glittered with the prominence of its alumni in the fields
of business and industry, politics and entertainment led by PLDT
chairman Manny V. Pangilinan.
The evening’s highlight was the
Rigodon de Honor, participated in by stellar achievers
among the alumni, representing various fields of endeavor.
Singing sensation Bituin Escalante provided the entertainment, while
Bedan crooner Calvin Millado hosted the event.
Namedroppables included ACCRA’s Atty. Avelino Cruz, Philippine
Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman and Manila Bulletin pres.
Atty. Mike Varela, election lawyer Atty. Sixto Brillantes, Arch.
Gerry Contreras, Rex Bookstore owner Atty. Dominador Buhain, Dr.
Jaime Galvez Tan and House of Representatives deputy secretary
general Dr. Ramon Ricardo "Cardie" Roque, who chaired the Bedan
Awards.
The well-attended affair proved that San Beda College has indeed a
legacy of producing stellar achievers in society.
This

our former classmates DEAD or ALIVE. This site will probably
expire by the year 2050. The last surviving person on this
list (shall we say the winner) should maintain this site at
all cost.
