remember... our School from the old remember... Classes from the old remember... Students from the old

for Batch GS'78 - HS'82 please don't remember us as old, but rather remember us as "Beda7882"

Back on top@82, Back to Mendiola with Beda7882

some words from the batch...
"We are blessed to have lived long enough to have our hair turn gray, and to
have our youthful laughs be forever etched into the deep grooves on our face."

I remembered what my dad used to say... "the heart never grows old, you just turn gray..." Wow what seems to be a saying is turning into an inevitable reality... and we are examples of it. Going back 25years ago... we are so naive, carefree... Today...we have grown... - never old, but just simply wiser... Hope I can speak for everyone... but I must admit, I still have my childish ways every now and then... And hearing from you and chatting with you... "makes my day".

I'm pretty sure we are all on the same boat. I missed the 20th year reunion of the batch because of lost contact. Always wondering whatever happened to everyone. For years I was dumbfounded, searching but cannot find anyone. A few got in touch with me and sent me emails and that started it all. You feel something was missing and then all of a sudden you see so much activity... and you feel, you were found again, like the prodigal son. I'm happy for everyone here who shares the same sentiments. Just to see the batch once again, nothing else. This is what triggered me to do this Beda7882 Alumni website... it was a lot like putting together a 25-year-old jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces finally fell into place... so people can see, we exist, and it ain't over yet.

Coming February, 2007 - is our year, block-off those dates, after 25 years - Beda GS '78 - HS '82 will celebrate Silver Jubilee, let's all come back to Mendiola (for some this maybe the last). This has nothing to do with merits, medals, pins, honour cards or trophies anymore. It's pure camaraderie, share the laughter, old memories, catching up on family and careers, and getting reacquainted.

Glad to see and hear from familiar faces. Let's all grow together, gracefully and maturely. My heart goes out to you all... Looking forward seeing you all guys on the reunion...2007.

Keep those emails coming...

ISANG MAPULANG PAGBATI SA ATING LAHAT!!!!
BUO NA NAMAN ANG PULA SA MENDIOLA (AT SA BUONG KAPULUAN)!!!!
MUNTIK NA AKONG ATAKIHIN HABANG NASA HUMHABOL ANG PaC-U sa ARANETA KAMI WITH OTHER BATCHMATES (SECTION 300 UPPER BOX A).

It was such a great feeling - having to relive old times - 78-79 championship!! After the champiionship, most of us went straight to SBC with Hubert, Gigi Miranda, Emy de la Cruz, Baquero. We were welcomed by a sea of red and white and by Sonny Ventura and with him was our kaibigan na walang iwanan - SAN MIG!!! the music WE are CHAMPIONS was playing in the background. We also met with the others such as Bob O, Bob Ng, Tito Canon, Edwin Evang, Alfred Danac, Louie Chiuay etc. It was oozing with lechion (though di kami nakatikim sa haba ng pila) and barbeques spread throughout the campus. Parokya ni Edgar performed at the gym with wide screen at the former jr football field. A bonfire was set up at aroound 11pm.

KAYA JOIN NA LANG KAYO SA 2007 HOMECOMING AND LETS ALL HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!!

Let our presence be felt. This will be once in a lifetime event. the next big thing will be after another 25 years wherein we will be the golden boys!! One night of rekinlding our HS days and renewing friendship and reestablishing nework will be worth it. This time pantay pantay na tayo. Walang mataas, mababa, mahirap o mayaman, may big or small achievement, Pinoy or Fil-hyphenated na, may katungkulan o di-hamak na empleyado lamang. All Bedans under one color!

For San Beda Country and GOD

Batchmates,

It's been a long time. Matagal na panahon na rin that I've not been in touch with anyone of you.  Buti na lang I accidentally bumped into Chuck de Leon (our daughters are studying in the same school)and it was him who insisted that I go to the homecoming last Feb and also to join our Yahoo Group, which I did.

Honestly, I was so happy that I decided to attend the SBCAA homecoming last Feb. It was great to see some of you guys again. At the same time nakakalungkot malaman na marami na rin pala tayong mga batchmates who passed away na (e.g., Thucy Delfin who was also my classmate sa SBC CAS'86).

Going back to San Beda that night brought back lots of good memories. It was even good see our high school teachers (e.g., Ms. Jauco, Mr. Febre, Ms. Plazon, etc.) and even my fellow HS Band Members from Batch HS'81(I had a great time cheering our old favorite "Indian Yell").

I was also very impressed at how the sponsoring batch (HS'81) managed the event.  Even the older batches were impressed.  Very well attended at galing ng program.

Medyo nakakalungkot nga lang na konti lang from our batch '78/'82 were able to make it.  Sayang turn-over pa man din ng sponsoring batch sa atin. Anyway, I'm sure makakabawi tayong lahat.

I never realized na sponsoring batch na pala tayo...until Chuck told me. After what I experienced at the homecoming last Feb, I really hope that we in Batch '78/'82 can put our minds, our hearts, and our hands together to make our homecoming next year a big success.  I believe that if we start focusing more on the potentials of our batch--on what we have and what we can do--and not just on our limitations...and if we set our minds on our common desires, rather than on our differences, then I'm very sure that we can make big things happen.

I understand that we are all busy, pero come to think of it, minsan lang tayo magiging jubilarians di ba?  So I'm sure any genuine sharing (kahit konti) of our time, our talent and our treasure will go a long, long way for our Batch.

I suggest that we have our own batch homecoming (kahit simple lang)this year as a prelude to the big day next year. "Kung sama-sama... Kayang-kaya!"

Animo San Beda!

Hello Batch,

Very addicting yung batch natin and all the memories we had in High School.

Do you remember the times when we have a movie premier sa Conference Hall and they would show a movie, pagpatay pa lang ng ilaw, sigawan na lahat, "Gastrock, yung kamay mo?", "Aray, betlog ko yan", "Pare may kumuha ng pantalon ko?", "Tsong may umutot","Bandojo.. bading", "Tayao, pa-kiss sa lips from Nessia". "Hobarns, maligo na naman".

Pare, these are classics (the real macoy). I enjoyed going to school so much because there was never a time na hindi ako tumatawa. yung mga janitor pare nagrereklamo kay Mr. Liwanag, hirap na hirap daw sila maglinis ng CR kasi everytime we ran out of toilet paper, pare grabe yung ibang tao, sa pader pinapahid yung kulay chocolate, yukkkk.

Anyway like I said, yung reunion namin sa Aug. 5 here in Los Angeles will definitely open up those memories again. I will be there, so if you guys want to have fun and hear my stories again, mga pare, don't miss this opportunity. Be there, and let's have fun while we enjoy the foods and the laughter. Thanks.

Ferdi Laco

Dear Batchmates;

After a week of posting in our yahoogroups, requesting for suggestion, for a batch name, I took the initiative of checking with the SEC the availability of the name based on those submitted.

I am pleased to announce that the batch name suggested by Abet Alba and Monmon Mitra (SBC GS / HS Alumni Association, Inc.) was approved by the SEC and can be used as our official batch name.

John Fernandez

Mga kapatid sa SBC batch 78-82,

First of all, my sincerest congratulations to Eric Estoesta, Mon Mon Mitra, Chi Herrera and John Fernandez for doing such an excellent job of keeping the spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie flowing within the batch. My congratulations also go to our overseas batchmates like Arthur Gastrock (website), and those based in the US, for their earnest desire to contribute to the material needs of the batch towards the fulfilment of our Alumni obligation, which is to host the 2007 SBC General Alumni Homecoming.

Each and every one of us, whether successful and affluent, struggling and poor, or simply surviving the everyday economic difficulties of life, have a role to play in all these. Let us set aside whatever differences we may have, whether it be personal, ideological, religious, social and economic. I am pretty sure that our combined professional expertise and work experiences provide us with an unlimited wealth of knowledge, skills and talent to lead us through this endeavour. After all, this is nothing but organizing an event and providing for the logistics and material resources for it. The rest would be management and administrative work.

While the hosting of this Alumni gathering may seem like such a gargantuan task, I sincerely hope that this encouraging signs of unity would extend beyond this event. There is a whole lot more that we, as individuals moving together collectively as one, can do. Whether for San Beda, our beloved Philippines or for mankind in general anywhere in the world, let us bring this unity and camaraderie to greater heights and accomplishments that we may never have thought we can do.

In the meantime, let us focus on the task at hand and contribute even just a little of our time, effort and money for the success of the event and of the batch.

God Bless!

Yours truly,

Albert Alba

Old age is the best time to grow in grace and godliness, in inner strength
and beauty of the character.

"The silver-haired head," the wise man said, "is a crown of glory, if it
is found in the way of righteousness." Proverbs 16:31
~ Monmon Mitra (Cavalier Cyber Prayer Warriors)

I was looking at our Ani '78 and Echoes '82 annuals one evening. Yes! I still have them and it brought a lot of great memories. Seeing our faces so young and without any clue to what is ahead of us 25 years later: taxes, children, family obligations, travels, death threats, stalkers, etc. Those years in Elementary and HS were some of the best times of my life. Who can still remember the following:

* Camping at Mt. Makiling
* Intramurals
* Integration
* Covelandia Excursion
* Alaskahan ng nanay at tatay
* Bivoac at J.E. Camp in Tanay under makeshift tents because Mr. Salvatierra failed to get tents for us. To add insult to injury, the Ateneans and Maryknollers had their own tents and better accomodations
* Sunugan ng barong
* Soirees with the kolehiyalas
* Frolics: Some of us paid the DJ 50 cents to say this: "Paging Mr. Bandojo, you are wanted by Mr. Matias in the restroom!!"
* Sipa: Counting or Patay-Buhay
* Gagamba fights
* Suntukan sa likod ng swimming pool
* Fight of the Year: Mantin Tanjuatco v. Ralph Paterno
* "Schedule" of the Year: Too many to mention...hahahaha
* Batbatan ng turumpo at sigay
* Picking up bottles at the football fields to redeem them for additional 25 cents we can buy Mang Bart's barbeque and dip it in the 100 year old sauce
* Shirley "the Queen of Marlboro"
* Aling Fanny "the Banana Q and Fish Ball magnate"
* Roger "the King of Baluts"
* NCAA: Nung hindi tayo pinalabas ng Letran sa Rizal Coliseum
* Songfest
* Noli Me Tangere Playfest: Our Sisa was a hottie. I still get a "woody" thinking about her even after 25 years and 3 children.  Damn! She was hot....Is she still hot, fat or not??

The point is, these are events filled with good and bad experiences, BUT STILL GREAT MEMORIES because they are our memories at San Beda. Honestly, after I left San Beda College in 1986, I have never experienced that kind of fun we had. We were so carefree and fun loving then despite the limits on our allowance. When I look at the fun that teens have here in the US...walang binatbat ang mga ito. Ours were products of our own creativity, talent, craziness, boldness and our eternal quest for fun.. We only need each others' companies to have fun. We are adults now...filled with obligations and problems to boot. Can we still have fun in the face of these realities in life? If we really want to, YES!! This reunion might not be important at all right now.. WE ALWAYS REGRET MISSED OPPORTUNITIES TO BOND...USUALLY NASA HULI ANG PAGSISISI. My brother who is also a Bedan alumnus missed his homecoming last February 2006. I wonder how he's feeling now. Seeing Batch '81's pictures on Derek Gamboa's website made me really want to go to our homecoming. Will I get another opportunity to attend the homecoming? Perhaps another batch's homecoming...not ours. Now why would I want to attend the homecoming of people I have nothing in common with?? Besides I love our batch..IT WAS UNIQUE AND FILLED WITH CHARACTERS....FILLED WITH FUN.

A lot of efforts have been spent by Eric Estoesta, Anthony De Castro, Manolet Anchores and the rest in Manila, but still we need more people to participate. We are trying to do our part here as much as we can, but we barely started. Hopefully, our reunion on August 5th will snowball into something good. Mga pare, I BELIEVE IN THIS BATCH!!! IT DID NOT LET US DOWN IN THE PAST, IT WILL NOT LET US DOWN FOR THIS EVENT!! This batch produced the first Summa Cum Laude at CAS in Bobby Malabanan after so many years. This batch has a lot of heart and compassion when we experienced deaths in our families and of our friends and when we help poor communities in Manila. WE CAN DO THIS!!

Bedans in the US, let us participate in every little way we can. Please
make the effort to attend.

Go San Beda Fight !!!

Wow! Your message brought us back to our fun-filled days in GS and
HS at San Beda, wala pa dyan our college stint at SBC-CAS. For us
to recall and reflect on those cherished events and life-changing
experiences we had at SBC certainly brings joy and a smile to all of
us, specially considering that we did all those in the company of
our friends and batchmates. Weekend gatherings with Tony, Fitz,
Ebang, Jun Z and Gino Maniego will never be complete without
recalling these stories during our carefree days. The mere thought
of meeting friends and classmates on Aug.5 and our own homecoming
this Feb. 2007 and to relive our GS and HS life is motivation enough
to MAKE TIME for this events and drop or re-schedule whatever plans
we may have for those dates. I am certain that ALL OUR BATCHMATES
feel the same way and would want to attend. Like you, Ferdie Laco
and others whom I will no longer mention, we are prepared to hold
on, hope for the best support and participation and pull this
through no matter what because we BELIEVE in our batch. Let us not
allow our very few ambivalent/indifferent batchmates infect us and
derail our plans. Thanks to all for your support! Go San Beda
Fight!

batch mates, i saw nip pangan today at our daughters' year level school fellowship at the assumption. he revealed that he will be undergoing kidney transplant due to diabetes on august 15 and is requesting for our prayers. fyi 3 months ago his life almost ended as he collapsed in the airport but his timely arrival in the e.r.

gave him a new lease in life, and of course by divine intervention he's still on the journey.

2 years back, it must have been, i saw anthony tinoco in the same venue and situation after his brain surgery. 2 months after he passed away. i pray that my meeting with nip today is not again a premonition of things to come. then again only God knows.

may God bless you mightily nip. our bedan prayers, love and friendship will always be with you. always remember: everything that happens in our lifetime has a purpose under heaven.

Godspeed,
erwin "chi-chi" herrera (29th July 2006)

Sadya itong nagpalakas at nagpabuhay sa hirap na niranas ko while  i was undergoing a kidney transplant operation sa National Kidney Transplant Institute. I am in recovery now and the worst has passed.

If there is any lesson here to take away. BANTAYAN NYO ANG CREATININE levels sa blood chemistry nyo. Major indicator ng kidney health nyo ito.

Swerte talaga at nagkaroon ako nag 2nd lease on life. You can never go wrong with family.

As i have said, i am in recovery. Just in time for xmas this year at para sa 25th sa february. Sobrang isolation to, mga good for three months.

To those who have sent prayers and well wishes i owe a life debt of gratitude.

Chichi, Bobby O, Mac, Ronald, Jun , Tonton,  Albert,  and Ferdie

thank you very much !!!

Dear Batchmates:

It's Thursday, August 3rd at 10:32 p.m. I can't sleep.
I'm really getting excited for Saturday, August 5th.
Para bang the night before High School Dance.
Kahit walang date, you still can't sleep because excited ka for the event.
You tried to find the nicest long sleeve in your closet or your
barkada's closet.
You rehearsed the latest dance craze in front of the mirror.
Penthouse Live with Archie Lacson, Mike Monserrat and Rayan Fuentes.

I remember one time, my dad had to bring us to the HS Dance in our
Willys Jeep na karag-karag na, palyado pa.
We asked our dad to just drop us off near the middle gate, my brother
and I were embarassed that our friends might see our legendary Jeep.
But because my dad was so concerned about our safety, he insisted on
dropping us off in front of the main gate. Thanks dad, I think.
As soon as the Jeep stopped, my brother and I jumped off the Jeep while
it was still in motion. Baka may makakita pa sa amin na mga chicks at dyahe.
We thought we were safe and then fate intervened, played a game on us
and stalled the Jeep.
Since the Jeep needed to be pushed to restart, my dad signaled to us
with our patented family whistle that compel us to respond.
My brother and I were pushing the Jeep with our heads between our arms
to hide our faces.
You can hear other classmates saying "Cas-te, kailangan ninyo'ng
tulong??!!" as they walked by with their dates.
Mga pare, dyaheng-dyahe ako noon but it feels good remembering it. Buti

O I hope to see those who can come this Saturday!
Again, kung may problema sa "ride", let me know.
I'll probably swing by your area and pick you up.
I'll bring whatever I can to help bring the reunion live to our
batchmates in Manila.

Warm regards to all. Take care. GO SAN BEDA FIGHT!!!

Tonton Castillo

Gus and Jun,

The last time I saw these guys:

George Maniego - buy and sell ng kotse. He lives somewhere in QC. Last time I saw him sa Crossings, Sct Boromeo with Edwin Ebang Evangelists who also lives (Heroes' Hill) near our place. Alaskador pa rin.

Edwin Evangelista - I also bump into him once in a while sa QC. Busy sa drugstore at buy and sell ng kotse din. married with kids (all girls ata).

Jessie Yuzon lives in Ayala Alabang. He is into buy and sell of imported cars. Saw him last sa wake ng Dad nya last month ata yun. Payat pa rin tulad ko. Married with 3 kids ata.

Arthur Martinez - I see hime once in a while sa Christ the King Church in Kamuning. Sa bangko ata siya work. WIll try to catch him again. Na-misplace ko yung call card niya. I also see his younger bro - rene who partly owns (i think) gourmet coffee. Married with 1 kid ata (girl) ang nakita ko kasi.

Lucien Putulin - he has own archi firm with offices near UST. He also is my neighbor here in Mothe Ignacia. He lives in Bohol Mansion. I see him once in a while. Still single.

Tsong Emy De la Cruz - now lives in Kamias with of course his everdearest Maya and kids. Pls pray for Maya who has been suffering from cancer for a while now. She is undergoing treatment at Veteran's hospital (ata). That's where I visited them (with Hubert Bustos) last.

Hubert Bustos has his own law firm (with bedan partners) wih offices in Ortigas center. I regularly see him on some business transactions. he has 3 kids all girls married to a pediatrician.

Tony Unarce has his own computer shop in Cubao the last time I heard. But have not seen him for a while. Though I still have his call card. will try to contact him.

Tito Canon - also lives in the scout area here in QC. he calls me once in a while on some potential businesses. 5 ata anak niya.

Eric Eleazar, a medical doctor married to a lawyer from Bataan. I also see him sa Hi Top grocery sa mya Quezon Ave paminsan minsan.

Gigi Miranda - businessman who used to be based in Bataan. Has his onw hardware there and SPA and badminton court. I had a few drinks with him more than a year ago when i had the chance of visiting Bataan. I heard he has moved his family to Greenhills.

James Ugarte lives in New Manila. Our daughters used to be classmates at Holy Spirit in New Manila. Also into car business.

Regie Umali, a distant relative of mine still lives in Paranque. he now works with the Red Cross. He used to run a brokerage firm. talked to him a couple of months ago.

Rene Pesuena - has a jewelry shop at Market market. Dapat magdonate yan sa batch kahit ginto or diamante (he he).

Arnie Sanvictores - saw him last sa Cagayan de Oro. Had a few drinks with him. Am not sure if he is still based there.

Nasaan na sila Arnold Dulay - i think he is with a bowling firm in one of the malls here.

Joey Mendoza - coach of women's basket team ng Ateneo pati aspirants ata.

Rico Mercader - texas based yan when I was still NY based. Have his contact somewhere.

Will have to honor them sa 2007 homecoming din.

As far as I know, Nesty together with Chuck and Fitz joined last alumni basket.

May nakita pa ako last Sunday na baka batch natin but can't remember his name. lalapitan ko next sunday kung bedista nga.

Okidoks, eto na muna. Hope to meet other batchmates...

For san beda, country and GOD

Tama Tonton & Al. Where are the rest? Oo nga naman napuno ang Conference Hall sa batch natin nuon not only for graduation song rehearsalsa but even for quarterly recognition ceremonies (di ko na matandaan kung meron pa nito nung high school o nun grade school lang). Tsaka pag may mga math & science contest, spelling contest, oratory contest, songfest, nolifest, filifest, etc. Name it, we were there. Not only the conference hall, but even the covered courts when there were bigger activities. Those who used to go up the stage for all these contests & garner the awards, where are you? Please, if you are just lurking behind these web pages, let your presence be felt. Let's do away with the bitter & negative feelings we used to have & are still harboring now for some of our batchmates, if not maybe for our ex-best friend in high school. Cmon, times have flown by & we're getting older. Isn't it time we put aside all our differences & enmities for some of our schoolmates who just happened not to share the same ideas & concepts of fun as us? It's been 24 years. Yes, 24 damn good & damn rough years behind us. As we approach the 25th year that marks our batch's oneness during the time that we marched up the stage & took our diplomas, let us show not only the other batches, but the whole of San Beda itself, that we are still a solid & unified batch.

Animo San Beda!

Peter Pica

friends, musta na uli..
tuwing nababasa ko mga e-mail nyo, i can just imagine your faces and laugh! anyhow i'm glad your reunion with our fellow bedans sa tate turned out to be a circus, a success pala in short. what do you expect naman pare, with you at the helm of things and a combination of our friends and stuff, theres bound to be chaos haha! nabanggit mo din kung gaano ka istricto ang mga traffic cops sa tate, you should try driving in the streets of saudi arabia. if you get apprehended for over speeding by the "murur"(traffic cops)  @#$%$@  ka nila sa puwet! thank god i managed to stay well within the speed limit in my 9 years sa saudi. that means i went home in one piece and a virgin at that buahaha! my best regards to you and your family pare.

RB DelaRosa

We are pushing through with this activity guys. Mahirap mga chong, but thanks to the efforts of the core group, we are determined to mount this undertaking. The last meeting would be on Wednesday, August 23.  Eric and myself would be on leave on August 25.  We would be at venue early Friday morning to oversee the preparations.

Hope you guys could attend the last batch meeting this coming Wednesday.  Sana makapagbigay kayo ng tulong kahit papano, not necessarily monetary because all of us know and feel the economic crunch.

Al and Peter already gave their insights and I would rather not dwell on them. Gusto namin kayo makita 25 years after not for anything else guys, miss lang namin kayo.

Sana makarating kayo...
Anthony De Castro

GO SAN BEDA FIGHT!!!

Kelan ba ang reunion? Sana complete tayo para mas masaya! In the past kasi
only a few really attend the affair...mahirap talaga.

Atoy, I just saw the picture you sent...you never changed. Parang you never
grew any older ha?! I'll show you also my family pictures. I don't know lang
if you still remember me. I'm still in LA pero pauwi na ako. Was supposed to
meet or contact with Laco and the rest but my schedule was so busy with my
relatives driving from state to state.

Anyway nice to hear from you guys. Regards and see you all soon.

GUS REYES

Hi Gus, Ferdi, et al

I'm pleasantly suprised with the group's increased activity - it took me hours to read through past posts. Pasensya na, the kids keep hogging the computers.

Gus, kudos to the batch's website and the teaser. You should change careers :) Kamusta to Stella. I trust Bianca and your youngest are fine. Often, work takes me to North Sydney but I never even get the chance to see Jit. Anyway, we're driving up before the end of the year and will catch up with you and the family. [Do you remember Butch Omega? His patience finally paid off and has moved to the US last July (still with Amex).]

Ferdi, malibog ka pa rin. A cold shower should fix that :)  We were in the US last Jan - pasensya na for not contacting you. Schedule was hectic as other friends and relatives took much of our time. Anyway, we will have San Diego in our itinerary when we return to LA next year.

Anthony, sayang we missed each other last Jan. Hope we can catch up next year (December 07).

Chu, we will be in Manila in December 06. We'll see you, Roch, Miko and the girls for sure. Gimmick tayo.

Peter Pica, kamust pare! Hope you remember....

Hope there's a get-together in December para makasali.

All the best and keep up the good work
from the other Bedan downunder....
Butch Ruasol (australia)

Palaging kong binabasa and memorable emails of the batch.  Hinahanap ko ang mga kasama kong goons.  Sina Rene, Leo, Chin-chin, Alfred atbp.

Palos, alam kong nandito si Jason Uy from Bahay Bene (batch ni alaska boy).  Hindi ko alam ko meron pa.  Magtawagan tayo on Sunday.  Tulog ako around 0900H - 1500H on Sunday.

Tonton, still remember those day with one en one.

Buko is still alive and kicking.  Thanks to Rene noong grade 2 kaya - use your coconut.

To all batchmates, kudos.

GO SAN BEDA FIGHT!!!!

Dear Batchmates,

It is very encouraging to see that the group is once again active in some way or the other and with the earnest participation of our esteemed grade school batchmate Mon-Mon Mitra, as well as other batchmates who were not that active before during batch meetings. For someone who has had the experience of organizing these meetings and activities in the past for our batch, I really welcome such developments and feel very optimistic that despite the differences in opinions---which is actually healthy in any organization---that our goals and aspirations for the batchh will be achieved in due time.

As a batchmate who had been in the Philippines for a long time and had the personal experience of trying to get things started for the batch (of course, I was never the first one to try to get things started---na mana ko lang kasi medyo busy at na frustrate ata yung mga nauna), I am a bit amazed on how I find myself now on the other side of the fence so to speak, being abroad and far away from you guys. Now I am particularly anxious and pleased to read about the developments from John or from Mon Mon and Chi Chi. But at the same time, I feel a certain level of helplessness in terms of contributing anything for the batch (i hope hindi monetary kasi kaya nga ako nag-abroad dahil sa monetary considerations eh...hehe). However, I am also quite sure that there are enough of us back home in Manila who possess the talent and knowledge in organizing and running the show for the batch---especially with the wide array of expertise which each of us have individually developed among ourselves brought about by our education and work experience. I guess the more important question really is time---whether we can dedicate a bit of our time for the batch.

Well, kudos to the batch, especially those actively trying to get things done (I wouldn't have to mention names anymore because you know who you are and what you've done so far) and hope
you have more time, patience and dedication.

Please try to make an advanced calendar of events---even if it is years in advance, with specific dates, if possible, for those of us abroad to make the necessary preparations and make sure that we make it there during and when we are needed the most.

Keep it up guys! GO SAN BEDA FIGHT!

Abet Alba

P.S. Mon-Mon, I'm not particularly good with yahoogroups despite my being a former moderator and two yahoogroups at that (may pagka eng-eng kasi eh), pero ganun ba talaga lang ang  makikita at magagawa ko whenever I go the beda7882 home page? I can't see the members, nor post message or anything? Please help or if you can, check on whether my e-mail: aktibista2003@... is registered as a member or not? I do receive mails from the group, but is that all? Thanks and I really like the way the beda 7882 looks---it is really looking like it is managed by someone who really knows a thing or two about e-groups and computers.

mon-mon,

i agree, (SBC GS'78 HS'82 Alumni Asso. Inc.) is a good name, very
concise.

regarding the yahoogroup - this one is excellent, all the features
are fully utilized. members have already been verified as gs78
and/or hs82 based on the info sheet they submitted to join the group.

finally kudos for the extra effort in sorting thru the email address
list. its a tedious job but somebody has to do it.

I'm in! Kamusta mga bros?

Dear Batchmates,

There will be a batch meeting at Mocha Blends, Ortigas Avenue, Greenhills. Members of San Beda HS67(they are celebrating their 40th year anniversary in 2007) will attend our meeting. Primarily to coordinate with us and support us in the preparation for the Feb 2007 homecoming. San Beda HS57 and HS67 have committed to help us in this endeavor. Members of San Beda GS78/HS82, let us be counted and let us join hands to make the 2007 homecoming a success. Ika nga ng depeche mode,"everything counts in large amounts." Thanks!

Bobby Orayani "Bobby O"

Anthony Ligon, Archie Delos Santos, Lito Pagulayan, Noel Corpus, Julius

Ferdie Laco, Ferdie Canlas, Beng Verendia, Jet Prescilla, Christian
Ylagan, Alex Magat, Enrico Rubio, Sammy Sales, Sammy dela Torre, Steve
Galvan, Mario Lasa, Peter Paul Tamayo, John Lao, Francis Pelino, Ralph
Paterno, Joy Sabeniano, Benedict Dionisio, atbp Bedistang hindi ko na
maalala.

Nagsimula ang pulong sa isang roll call. Bawat Bedista ay nagpahayag ng
kani-kanilang kalagayan...

masigabong na "GO SAN BEDA FIGHT!!" O ang sarap mag-sulat pag
kampeon...hehehehe....

SAKSI PALA!!!

I am surprised to see u guys still hanging out! but maybe im untimely coming in our group as i observed that when we forgot the unique ideals and qualities that set us apart from other batches and which also brings together comaraderie and priceless crossing of different types of frienships. Wherefore is the true essence of our being a bedans of batch 78 & 82, arguing about senseless insignificant litlle stuff like yahoo groups moderatorships etc.. It leads me now to the questions: what is our vision n mission in coming together again as sbc batch 7882?

But dont get me wrong, I am very happy to see all of u guys again. hopefully, this is mutual felt. Hopefully we get to be bigger if not complete.

Before we ended the meeting which i feel was well handled and participated, i asked some question that i somehow feel wwere left unanswered and still hanging. Where is the Bedan heart we used to demonstrate when we were still in mendiola.? like for example, not caring who one really was, but being a bedan is enough to spark up a frienship. remember... on the streets for example, we say, bedista to namumukhaan ko... and we greet one another shake hand like weve know each other for so long.

Ewan ko... im just reflecting back during our days... for 1 really see myself as a san beda college batch 78 & 82

This is just one example, i can go on and on with stories like these.

Mga pare ko u have done a lot i know and i hear about and now i saw it. Lets keep up the good work and join hand in fullfilling this dream of reuniting our batch and being know as the best batch sbc can be proud of.

parang sumakay tayo ng time machine at nagbigay ng kanya kanyang mga kwento, masaya man o malungkot...it really made me feel good remembering our student days.

we will definitely keep in touch until we meet again on Feb 2007 after 25 years!

Dear Batchmates,

Thank you very much to our Boyet Almazan for his commitment to our Feb 24, 2007 homecoming. Thank you also to Cirio Cinco for designing our promotional t-shirts and for the design and layout of all our future print ads and for doing the homecoming program. Thank you also to Raymond Tan for giving 100 t-shirts to our batch. Thank you also to Lucien Putulin for making the floor plan of the homecoming venue. And thank you to all those who have contributed in both the badminton and golf tournaments of our batch. But there's still a big task ahead of us and that is our hosting the 2007 San Beda Alumni Homecoming. Let us follow the lead of Boyet, Cirio, Raymond, Lucien and all the other batchmates who in their special way want our homecoming to succeed.

We can make it succeed but we need the cooperation and help from all of us. Please attend the Thursday Mocha Blend meetings so that you will know what's happening and also for us to hear from you. We can make it happen. Thanks!

Bobby O. (orayani)

I'm Enrico Rubio from section 4-43. Nandoon ang pic ko sa website but for some reason my name is not there. Probably its because i was not allowed to join the graduation exercises because of excessive absences (hehehe, puro lakwatsa kasi)

Anyway, I'm based here in Los Angeles now and I saw the pics of Anthony Ligon and the rest when they had their reunion here. I'll try to contact them soon. I also had the chance to work with Raymond Guevara dito sa LA. Nababanggit niya ang pangalan mo noon. If in case you know his contact number diyan sa pinas, let me know naman, I lost contact with him when he went back home there.

Thanks Jerry for vouching for me. Anyway, I'm in the yahoogroup now.

All these years, I have been wondering what happened to our batch. Then all of a sudden this group and website appeared. Kudos to all those who are responsible!!!!

Hope to see you all at the reunion next year.

Hello Gus,

I just sent some pics. I moved to Houston in 1988. I met my wife here, she is from Cebu. I have three kids, I now work for Walgreens, they are the biggest retail drugstore in the US. Kumbaga I am a drug dealer pero legal. I am a store manager, work is hard and stressful but alam mo na here in the US if you don't work you don't eat. Houston housing is very affordable, unlike LA. The good thing about Houston is that we do not have to pay State taxes or city taxes, subsidized by oil taxes (that other states have to pay). The only taxes we pay are federal. The cost of living here is cheaper. gas, food and housing. The weather is like Manila during the summer but we have the four seasons. The good thing during winter it seldom snows here maybe once every 20-25 years. How are you doing over there? How is San Juan? I have not been back in a long time. I might retire in Cebu but I am not sure. Keep in touch.

Rico Mercader

Atoy,

Kumusta na. A truly virtual reunion. Thanks for the run back in time.

My almost cousin in law. Your Aunt Celia did attend my Abbey of Our Lady of Monserrat wedding.

Speaking of Sydney, in 2003 we came through there on the way back from my first deployment to Iraq. Talk
about a first taste of civilization after our push into Baghdad. I ran the Mosman marathon that year.

Sinulatan kita sa old email address but no response. That would have been a great meeting. I am looking
forward to a meeting with some old kopyahan mates, shoppesville rats, game room freaks sa virra mall,
paste' mates and san mig buddies.

Drop me a line.

To all the dads, soon-to-be dads, want-to-be dads, and for the ladies who know one of these guys :)
(shared by Alain Maulion)

This is forwarded by a friend and is worth reading... The crisis of the world today is a crisis for real manhood. My eldest boy Bene is turning 7 this month and he's thrilled. One reason: I'm making him a special manhood "Ritual of Passage" for his 7th birthday. I told him it's the first of a three-part series: The first at age 7, the second at age 14, and the third at age 21. I copied this pattern from the knighthood culture, where a boy becomes a "Page" at age 7, a "Squire" at age 14, and a "Knight" at age 21—and since my son loved reading about knights, he's giddy with excitement. I've learned that ancient and medieval cultures always had great manhood "Rituals of Passage". The Jews have the Bar Mitzvah. Australian Aboriginal Tribes had circumcision. African Tribes sent their boys into the wilderness—alone.

But prior to these ceremonies, Dads usually passed on their craft to their son. That meant countless hours teaching their boys how to hunt boar, or saw wood, or shape iron, or throw a spear. Fathers also taught their sons how to endure difficulty and pain so they could fight for what they loved. But, once they got initiated in these rituals, the boys knew without a doubt that they were no longer boys, but men. They took the leap—from irresponsibility to responsibility, from being carefree to being disciplined, from ignorance to wisdom, from being a follower to being a leader.Today, we no longer have these "Rituals of Passage". Why? Because we don't know what a real man is anymore. Some guys think they can prove their manhood by getting drunk or picking a fight.

Manhood, my foot. Drunks are Sissies with a capital S. And hot-headed bullies are really disguised kids still throwing temper tantrums.Real men have so much respect for themselves, they prize their self-control. Because we don't know what real manhood is, many boys, for most of their teen-age life, lose their way. For many years, they get stuck in limbo. They don't know who they are or where they should go.

As Christian Dads, we need to teach what real manhood is to our sons and also recreate "Rituals of Passage" for them today. For example, before my son's "Page" ceremony on his 7th birthday, I'll have 3 weekly father-and-son sessions with him. I'll bring him out to his favorite restaurant (Thank God it's inexpensive Jollibee), and while he eats his burger steak with mushroom sauce, I'll discuss with him the 3 virtues necessary for a Page: Responsibility, Obedience, and Service—one virtue per weekly date. I'll read stories, answer his questions, and give examples. And here's the hard part: I'll give him specific projects to do connected to these virtues. It could mean doing things he never did before—like walking to Lolo's house on his own to visit and serve him.And on his birthday itself, we'll have his "Page" ceremony. All the men in
the family (his Lolo, Uncles, etc.) will gather around him. We'll ask Bene to offer a symbol of his being a "Page for the Lord"—which would be a pair of brown sandals. We then bless him, sing a song, and invite the women of the family to join us for a festive meal together.I'm going to be very blunt here.Do you know why the world is in crisis today?------ I'll tell you why:

Because men don't know how to become real men.
Because fathers don't train their sons how to live life.
Because fathers don't raise their sons in the ways of the Lord.
Because fathers don't mentor their sons to take responsibility.
Because fathers don't teach their sons how to relate to women.
Because fathers don't love and protect their wives.
Because fathers don't lead their families towards a vision.

They're cowards. They're macho on the outside but flakes on the inside. They're irresponsible. They're passive. They're parasitic jello.Fathers don't really "father" their kids on a daily basis. They leave child rearing to the mothers. They have no vision for their families.

Make no mistake about it. Families are in crisis today because we lack godly husbands and godly fathers. The crisis of the world today is a crisis for manhood.Let me give you this set of facts you may not know:
·   Men commit 90% of major crimes.
·   Men commit 100% of all rapes.
·   Men commit 95% of all thefts.
·   Men commit 91% of all offences against the family.
·   Men commit 94% of all drunk drivers.
In one study, they asked fathers how much time they spent with their kids. They were very honest and apologized that because of their busy schedule, they could only spend 15 minutes a day with their kids. After the interview, these same fathers were equipped with audio recorders—and for the next few days—the behavioural scientists measured the actual time they spent with their children. Average time a father spends with kids? 45 seconds a day.No joke. By the way, raising your children isn't just about spending time with them. A father could be spending time with his children watching TV. Hearts don't engage when you sit passively in front of the idiot box. Here are the three things fathers need to do with their kids.

First, you bond with them. Play with them. Laugh with them. Do things they enjoy doing. Because my sons are small, I play their games, no matter how silly they seem to me. "Waste" your time with them, doing what you may consider totally unproductive. In reality, playing with your kids is the most productive thing you can ever do as a human being.

Second, you teach values. Yes guys, you actually open your lips. Not classroom lectures, mind you. But you tell stories. Exciting, inspiring stories. Don't leave this to Mom. Men, pick good books and read stories to your sons. Stories of courage. Stories of service. Stories of heroism. Stories about God.

Third, you pray together. That's right, Dads. Don't let Mom be the priestess at home. You're the priest of the family, so act like one. On Judgment Day, God won't first ask the mother, "Did you bring your family closer to Me?" He'll ask this important question to Dad first. Fathers, let your children watch you pray and see your heart for the Lord.

How can you do all these three assignments if you don't spend at least a weekly date with each of your kids?

Fatherhood isn't for wimps. It requires men of steel. It requires rocklike warriors totally committed to winning the battle for the hearts of their children.

Will you be a real man?

Capt. Mitra,

I hope you still remember me, Christian Ylagan. Tell me what to do to join the yahoo group so I'll be recognize as "Flip" again? It's been a long time.

"Hey guys, its me Christian "Flip" Ylagan I am still alive and kicking."

Hey Gus,

Its been a while, salamat at naaalala mo pa ako. I will send pictures next time pag may oras akong makapili. Well anyway, kamusta na? My wife is Joanne Diamse from Davao.

Minsan nagkita kami ni Ronald Cunanan at si Jun Sampongan dito sa L.A. and Tonton also pero that was during the 80's pa kaya sabik na sabik akong makakita o makausap man lang ng bedista.

Anthony,
Kumusta! Nice to hear from you too (nagkakabadingan na, he,he). Saw the pics of your family in the web site album. Am attaching pics namin nila Maya and three tsonggitos. Maya just finished her 6th and last chemo for her stage 2-A ovarian C.A. Mukang hiyang naman siya and thank God we were able to get over the chemo sessions and operation she had this January. Nag-shave din ako para sabayan ko siya. Actually nakahanap lang ng rason para mabura receding hairline ko para kunwari sadyang nagpakalbo (he,he). Medyo alaskador pa din lalo na tapos na ordeal namin regarding the chemo, but we will still have to wait some years kung walang recurrence. Ang thanks to Ceso and his wife Lyn they were able to help us get assistance for the chemo meds. Ang laking bagay, man! Next year magkita-kita uli "rat patrol". Kumusta Gilbert and Joey? Mahilig pa rin ba si Joey? Panay panay pa din ba. Kumusta na siiiiiiiii Tiiiitoooo Ehhhd?

Anyways email lang am coming out of the shell na now that 1/2 of the ordeal is over. Sige gotta go! Naks inggles yon ah.

Pahabol; Nagkita pala kami nila Ceso, Hubert, Boyet A, Bobby O, Fd, Gus, Gerome, Danac, Bobbie Ng, etc. nung game 2 & 3.

Sige, regards to your family.
Emmanuel "Tsong" Dela Cruz

After 25 years, since 1982, nakapasok uli ako sa San
Beda. There are a lot of changes.

Like the Junior Footbal field which is now occupied by
the St Maur's Bldg., the Grandstand - in place is a
new Grandstand which above it is the extension of the
St Anselm's Bldg, the Gym is now enclosed, High School
and Grade School are now situated at the San Beda,
Rizal Prov (except that only a few batch of Grade
School sections are left at the Mendiola Branch-until
they graduate), a new bldg is now erected at the back
of St Benedict Bldg to house the Col of Medicine,
Co
