The 1st San Beda College 2-day Badminton
tournament culminated with National Badminton Team Coach Martin Araneta
and partner Brandon Chan topping off the Class Open division after a long
fought battle with 3 other pairs in their group. Ex-national team players
Naresh Ramnani and John Campos settled for the runner-up title in the same
category.
It was a worthwhile effort for the batch to launch a major endeavor and
truly despite overwhelming odds, logistical nightmares and bruised egos,
the accomplishment itself is a milestone as we'll continue to line up
several fund raising projects before the 2007 homecoming. As committee
chairman I personally would like to thank the following batch mates for
their sincere and committed efforts in making the tournament a class on
its own:
Batch Chairman Atty. Eric Estoesta- for his never say die attitude and for
initially funding the "war chest". Up to this writing he is still
consolidating all sponsorships and tallying all expenses. Hats off to you
Mr. Chairman for your patience and generosity. Padre may rape case si
Almazan. Paki tulungan na lang.
Gerry Garcia- who never fails to attend all the meetings and is punctual
until the final meeting. Will a deportment medal interest you padre? Also
for the major and minor sponsorships he brought in until the last hours
prior the tournament proper. Of course the photos! Watch out for Gerry's
collection of FHM candidates from the tourney! Kudos to you Mr. Garcia for
your steadfastness and belief in the endeavor. Wala ba talaga tayong
makukuha sa Abiva?
Cirio Cinco- for all the very creative artwork and press release text and
images for the tourney. Not to mention the 15,000 fliers he personally
contributed for dissemination to the different badminton courts. Long live
the Queen!
Al "butas" Yu- the dark horse among the batch mates. Al vigorously pursued
both minor and major sponsors thus contributing much to the funding cause.
Until the end he continues to find ways and means to generate funds for
the tournament. (Pardon the moniker padre, but Mon-Mon and I really had a
grand time laughing about it. For those of you who are still wondering,
please call Al and he will gladly explain it to you). Mabuhay and Chinese
community!
Dr. Gus Reyes- coined the "Smashing Red Lions" tourney and was very
supportive to all injured players during the tournament. Padre, Alfred
Danac's circumcision is long over due. He will call you soon.
Mon-Mon Mitra- for putting in major and minor sponsors especially
Yehey.com and Badminton Philippines for a much needed on-line and press
exposure. He also contributed important logistical needs during the
tournament and acted as pledge collector, "el bastonero", before the the
critical start of the tournament proper. Bok si Laco daw ipapadala yung
pledge niya sayo. And even if we didn't win a single match, cute pa din
tayo.
Alice Santos- Bene HS'82, the only rose among the thorns. As tourney
director she feverishly prepared the details of the matches and at times
went out of her way to do extra levelling to make sure all categories are
filled up for us to reach 240 players. Thank you for being a part of the
San Beda Mendiola community. Pasensya ka na kay Beato, ganun lang talaga
tumingin sa legs yun.
Alfred Danac- was able to solicit a significant sponsorship for the
tournament. Watch out for Gerry's photos of our beloved Alfred donning ala
Mac-Mac Cardona outfit.(Padre ayan ha, di ka na Samboy Lim. I just
modernized your image).
Anthoy De Castro and ManoletAnchores- for the giveaway loot bags filled
with Nestle products (puno nga ba? parang naubuos na yung laman after I
had breakfast this morning) and of course the Nestea drink sampling. Thank
you dynamic duo.
It was also good to see Bobby Orayani, Ronald Pavia(k), Manny Beato (armed
with his Japan escapades and last replacement for Eleazar as doubles
partner of Anthony. Padre nadikit mo na ba yung sapatos mong natuklap?),
Alfred "Mac-Mac" Danac, Swing-Out sisters Voltaire Cagampan and Esplana
with back-up singer Cirio Cinco, Fitz "Goma" Canilao with doubles partner
Jun "the hair" Zafra (ni-isa tulad namin wala din pinanalo). And of course
all the other Bedans who were there to participate..matatanda na
pero..alam niyo na.
Lest I forget, thank you too for all the other batch mates who gave all
their pledges and support in more ways than one! For those who have not
turned over your pledges yet, please do so as soon as possible because we
are going to have a movie premier (King Kong) fund raising very soon.
Until the next fund raising..see you all soon!

This
site is only as good as the info we have. We need updates of
our former classmates DEAD or ALIVE. This site will probably
expire by the year 2050. The last surviving person on this
list (shall we say the winner) should maintain this site at
all cost.
