"Finishing
Prep School"
1978... the year we finished Grade
School... "we had been forced into prudence and
had been imbrued with the follies of our youth, -atoy gastrock- transition from prep to grade school to high school... wow.. remember from
pencil to ballpen...
"Many things changed in
time. Life and everything in it, can change in only a matter of
seconds. I experienced that change the moment I took my first step
out of SBC grounds. I remembered walking down the hallways of
Mendiola for the last time and in a second, I knew that my life
would never be the same. I may have been away physically, but my
mind was wandering back to my country, my home, my alma mater, San
Beda College, Mendiola. And it is one place where I can go back, if
only in my mind, and remember my early childhood years. I had been
forced into prudence and had been imbrued with the follies of my
youth, but I learnt life as I grew older. It was here where my
values of self-discipline and sacrifice were formed. The principle
of "Ora et Labora" prayer and hard-work were instilled in
my Bedan way of life. These two values are engraved in every student
and taught us the value of humility, fortitude and faith in God. The
Bedan spirit, the character of friendliness, gentleness,
graciousness, easy-going ways and respect for family, heritage,
education, profession and work were ingrained. San Beda in all its
down-to-earthness, simplicity, and earnest community spirit has made
me what I am. Twenty-five years have passed since I've stepped on
Mendiola soil. I miss my home, but I will continue to hold the torch
of San Beda and it's ideals on high. Thank you for the gift and
privilege of being a Bedan".
